Elekta Receives CE Mark Clearance For 'Everyday Radiation Therapy' Accelerator, Elekta Compact

Elekta latterly announced that it has received CE Mark clearance to
hand out Elekta Compact(TM), the in style addition to its agate line of discussion
systems, offering clinicians an easy to implement, more affordable solution
for actinotherapy therapy. CE Mark headway from the European Union certifies
Elekta Compact has met health, safety and environmental requirements for
consumer safety.

Elekta Compact was developed to address the demanding clinical
requirements in emerging markets, which ask a low-pitched energy system that lavatory
be consecrated to specialized cases. Its ultra-compact design also makes it
more than accessible to clinicians world Health Organization want to provide their patients with optimal
radiation therapy care.

"We ar pleased to offer this treatment option to our customers,
complemental our range of one-dimensional accelerators with a scheme suitable for small
bunkers and development markets," says Peter J. Gaccione, Elekta Vice
President - Global Sales Initiatives. "Elekta Compact's modular designing makes
it not only upgradeable, merely capable of delivering advanced radiation
therapy, such as performing stereotactic treatments or conformal therapy. For
countries needing to rapidly increase treatment capacity or where new Cobalt
units ar being considered for purchase, Elekta Compact is the ideal
discussion system. Alternatively, in markets where clinically installed Cobalt
unit replacements for new low vigor linear accelerators are beingness
considered, then once once again Elekta Compact is a perfect equip."

With one patient clearance, patients receiving radical knocker
treatment can be treated with both arms raised while supported on a breast
board. For more conformal techniques, a range of accouterment mounts and custom
or standard block trays ar available. The low isocenter of Elekta Compact
ensures simple and convenient attachment for a range of small field high
resolution multi-leaf collimation systems and X-ray beam-shaping accessories.

"To enhance efficiency, clinics may enhance the system over time with new
features and functions to support its caseload expansion, as well as the
specific range of protocols it employs," explains Gaccione. "There are
capture treatment planning and record and verify solutions to complement
many clinical workflows, whether you want to simply move forward from a
atomic number 27 machine or add an external multi-leaf collimator system to complement
a department which already has accelerators for standard conformal and IMRT
-- all useable today for an entry-level investment from Elekta."

Elekta Compact was launched in 2007, is one of five additive accelerators
inside the Elekta Delivery system portfolio and is compatible with many
products, accessories, and options within the Elekta Precise Treatment
Systems and Elekta Synergy product lines.

Management Of The Small Renal Mass

Small renal masses ar defined as stage T1a lesions (less than 4cm), but for sure lesions less than 2cm fall into this definition. There is a 126% increase in the detection of nephritic cell cancers since 1950, due to increased imaging and incidental detection of renal people. It is suggested that the beggarly tumor growth rate of a grade 2 nephritic cancer is 0.28cm/yr, compared to 0.93cm/yr for a grade 3 tumor. The adequacy of a nephritic biopsy has been demonstrated to by over 96% in legion studies, with sufficient tissue acquired when an 18 gauge core needle is used. Most often, the core sample is sufficient to provide a histology and tumour grade. These improved biopsy outcomes ar the outcome of improved imaging and the usance of a core acerate leaf as opposed to needle aspirations, which were historically used. Some argue that a needle biopsy testament not change treatment, merely 4 studies show that treatment was changed in 30-60% of patients wHO had a biopsy.

Surveillance is based upon victimisation a biopsy to square up histology and grade. Over 90% of renal masses are

Cryoablation or radiofrequency ablation tin be performed using a laparoscopic or percutaneous attack. The transdermal approach should involve the urologist in the decisiveness process and procedure. The percutaneous approaching is limited on the upper pole of the left kidney due to the spleen, but we have reported the transhepatic approach to the right upper pole lesions without difficulties. Followup imaging has historically been with CT or MRI and signs of tumour viability ar enhancement or growth. One abstract reported that scorn radiographic evidence of no active tumor in 86% of patients after RFA, biopsies were negative in only 65%. For cryoablation the numbers were 89% and 94%, respectively, prompting perhaps better ablation using cryotherapy. At present, minimally invasive approaches are still selectively applied, as long-term outcomes are best with nephron-sparing operating theater. Patients undergoing surveillance, ablation or NSS should get regular follow-up, which will differ based upon the treatment strategy employed.
